► Briefly Free Cutting Steels

 

These steels are developed to offer good machinability. Due to the addition of S and Pb the chip length during cutting, drilling and turning is greatly reduced. This enables these materials to be processed unsupervised on CNC machines. Mechanical properties increase with increasing carbon concentration. Free-cutting steels are ideal where high degrees of machining are required as they increase machining speeds and reduce tool wear. Free-cutting steels for CNC machines and automatic lathes.
